Thank you all for making the Fair such a success! It was great to see everyone, meet new people, and marvel at all your wonderful collections. My staff was so appreciative to meet you all and learn more about your resources.
A couple of things that I wanted to share with you:
1. Next 50 (the Seattle Center Foundation committee on the C21 celebration) has created a booklet of all the events, programs, exhibits, tours, etc that are planned for the April 2012-Oct 2012 celebration.
2. Paula Becker and Alan Stein’s new book The Future Remembered will be available in bookstores, etc on Oct 21st.
3. The Central Library is hosting a book lecture/book signing for Nov 19th at 1 pm. This is being widely advertised.
4. Central Library will also have a dropin session that day for the public to learn more about the digital collection we have created and we will be opening a new exhibit in our Gallery on Level 8 (about the history of the property of the Fair from Native times to the future planning…the “next 50…”)—both on Nov 19th.
5. The Pacific Northwest Historians Guild is sponsoring its annual conference on the subject of Century 21 on May 11-12, 2012. The conference will be in the Northwest Rooms on the Seattle Center grounds (how perfect is that?). I have attached the call for proposals—please feel free to pass this around, and, by all means, I would love to have SAA do a panel on the resources of the Fair—perhaps a history of how the records were created and preserved…or “the most unusual C21 item” in the collections, or…??? Or if any of your own research leans in the direction of 1962, please do submit a proposal. The deadline for submitting a proposal is Jan 31, 2012. If you have not attended the conference, I think this is one not to miss.
We (SPL Special Collections) are very interested in the planning for American Archives Month for 2012---Deb is already starting to collect ideas! Bless her heart…
Thanks again~

We had about 30 people at the lecture. I wish it had been more.
