Rough season began late this monsoon

The wave height was hovering around 7 to 8 feet from the beginning of the monsoon this year till 31st July when it suddenly increased to 10 and then 11 feet today, 1st August.

The wind speed was also more or less steady at 24 to 26 kmph till 29th August when it increased to 35 and today it's 41 kmph. 

Normally, they increase gradually and at 9 feet wave height we could safely assume the monsoon rough season has started. This time 9 feet was probably so brief that it did not register in the marine weather forecasts.

Barring one incident off Vizhinjam early on during the onset of the monsoon which was due to engine failure if I remember right, I think this is first accident of this monsoon off the Kerala coast due to bad weather:
