A 23-year-old fisherman succumbed to burn injuries he sustained in a cooking accident on a fishing boat.
The deceased has been identified as Naveen Govinda (23), from Belamber village in Ankola taluk. Naveen was working at Malpe port.
On August 5, while preparing a meal on the Sheshadri fishing boat, the vessel was rocked by rough waves, causing Naveen to fall into a pan of hot oil placed on the gas stove. He sustained severe burn injuries to his face and right arm and was immediately admitted to a hospital in Manipal for treatment.
Unfortunately, despite medical efforts, he passed away on September 26 night.
