Knowledge is power. But only if it is shared. At Women Win, we learn and play every day and encourage others to join our learning playground. The Learning Playground is the place where all our learnings are open-sourced. We hope it starts debates, sparks ideas, and kick-starts action. We organise our learning in 3 steps: Explore, Dive-in, and Experience.

A seed grant programme refers to a small sum of money and/or resources that are granted with the intention to support the implementation of a project or activity and also often combines some sort of accompaniment.

Home of our learnings. Home of our experiences. The Learning Playground is the place where Women Win shares the insights gathered in the last 15 years thanks to the collaborative work that we do with our partners in all regions.

Margaret Mead (1901-1978) was an American anthropologist famous for her studies of social structures among the people of Samoa and New Guinea. Mead worked as a research fellow and curator of ethnology at the American Museum of Natural History from 1926 until her death in 1978. The American Museum of Natural History's Hall of Pacific Peoples owes many of its exhibits to Mead's research in the South Pacific. The western section of Theodore Roosevelt Park, home of the Museum of Natural History, was named for Mead in 1979.

Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962) was born in New York City in 1884. The niece of President Theodore Roosevelt and the wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Ms. Roosevelt distinguished herself in her own right. As a worldwide spokesperson, lecturer, and news columnist, she set about championing the cause of social reform and racial equality. Roosevelt is honored with a playground in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and a monument in Manhattan's Riverside Park.

Another First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis (1928-1994), is honored in Central Park -- the Central Park Reservoir was renamed the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in 1994; she lived across the street in the penthouse apartment at 1040 Fifth Avenue.

Jennie Jerome Playground in the Bronx is actually named for Jeanette Jerome (1854-1921), who was born in Brooklyn, raised in New York City, and later married Lord Randolph Churchill. Jerome bore two sons -- one of whom would become Prime Minister of England and bravely guide that country through World War II. Jerome Avenue in the Bronx is named for Jennie Jerome's father.

There was once a community that experienced a great deal of growth. Many families with young children moved to the area and city planners saw the need for a place where parents could bring their kids and connect with one another. Plans were made for a playground to be built, but the only area big enough for a playground was near a busy intersection. Every day, families would pass by the construction site to see intricate tunnels, colorful swings, impressive slides, and all the latest in modern playground design. The children grew in eager anticipation for the day they could partake in this joyful park.

The week before the playground was to open, a large, sturdy fence was established around the perimeter with all the safety precautions any parent could hope to see. Finally, the day came for the grand opening of the playground. The community flooded. Parents walked through the gate and let their children take off with all the speed their tiny feet could muster. Children ran and squealed and jumped and laughed while their parents sat comfortably on the benches watching their children explore, create, and learn.

I know a lot of women, myself included, who are tired. The slightest hint of ambition can be misunderstood as reaching for the pastorate. A woman who speaks her mind or has strong opinions can be declared unfeminine. If a woman holds a leadership position in a church or Christian establishment, she can be subject to skepticism in ways that her male counterparts are not. The road to ministry in the church for women can be a weary one.

Fellow believers, when is the last time you encouraged women in your church to use their gifts? Are you more inclined to comment on what women cannot do than what they can? What would it look like if you spoke less about the fence, and more about the playground?

1For the purpose of this post, I am working from the Baptist Faith & Message 2000, which states that the office of the pastorate is reserved for men. My personal conviction is that the role of pastor or elder is the only role in the church that is limited to men and other roles or leadership opportunities in the church or outside of the church are open avenues for women to use their gifts. There are, of course, many nuances in this discussion and my goal is not to address them all here. -the-church

God invites His children to talk with Him, yet our prayers often become repetitive and stale. How do we have a real conversation with God? How do we come to know Him so that we may pray for His will as our own?

Reviving the historic center of a village of 1,600 people, the project responds to isolation and limited resources. Two abandoned buildings will be adapted for reuse as working spaces with an eco-kitchen, followed by the rehabilitation of surrounding spaces.

The new facilities will include interactive educational playgrounds for children, winter and summer seating areas, and a protected bird habitat. It is an effort to bring life back to this abandoned site by combining design, planning, restoration, landscaping, and infrastructure, thus improving local living conditions and biodiversity, while adding to the aesthetic quality of Beit Iksa.

The twelve winning projects of the Holcim Awards 2014 Africa Middle East focus mainly on enhancing social and environmental resilience, as well as the economy of construction. The winning submissions show how multi-disciplinary responses to the challenges facing design and building are being developed. A green building in Turkey, an urban forest rehabilitation in Lebanon, and a low-cost housing plan in Ethiopia received the top prizes.

Playground Partners, a program of the Women's Committee of the Central Park Conservancy, hosted their Annual Family Party, raising over $580,000 for the maintenance and daily care of Central Park's 21 playgrounds. We're continuing to do our part to uplift and support the communities we serve, which is why we're excited to help champion their mission to provide all New York children with safe, clean and accessible areas to play and providing sponsorship for the program.

"We love how close Central Park is to our flagship, and always look forward to kicking off the start of summer with the Playground Partner's Family Party," said Chris Wanlass, Vice President and General Manager for Nordstrom New York City. "This year marks our fifth year supporting the annual celebration, and we are indebted to Central Park Conservancy's commitment in keeping their 21 playgrounds safe and well-maintained for the kids in our community, and visitors alike."

For more than 40 years, the Conservancy has been committed to raising funds essential to the maintenance, management, and restoration of all 843 acres of the Park, including its 21 beloved playgrounds that are used by millions each year. The family-friendly fundraiser featured an entertaining afternoon of activities, games, and music for the whole family.

"Central Park's playgrounds are essential to so many children, families, and New Yorkers, which makes the annual Family Party and the funds it raises critical to their long-term care," said Betsy Smith, President and CEO, Central Park Conservancy. "The support of the Playground Partners ensures that the playgrounds and the families who use them will continue to enjoy them for generations to come. I am grateful to all the wonderful philanthropic women who make up the Playground Partners, a sub-committee of the Women's Committee, for their ongoing support of the Conservancy."
