I love the program, but have a minor annoyance.

I am using a the program in a corporate installation of Firefox ESR 38.5.0. and have the searchbar set to maintain 507 pixels.

It works fine, but about every two weeks, it will shrink back to the default and I have to go into the settings and change it again.

I suspect this happens when the company updates the browser to a new version, but I am not sure of that.

Is there any way to prevent this from happening and retain my custom settings?

Thanks in advance,

Marshall Brooks

Hello Marshall,

I haven't had this issue when upgrading browsers so I'm not sure what is causing the problem. To be clear is the SBA preference getting reset? Or is it a browser setting. The only thing I can think of is that the updates are doing more then just updating and may be clearing some settings. SBA certainly doesn't clear any settings itself (except for the preferences dialog and setup wizard).

A possible workaround might be enabling firefox sync which *might* restore your previous settings after an upgrade, however there is also a good chance that it would just sync the new value around.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Kevin

More info - I'm not sure what is actually being reset.  Here's a screenshot:

As you can see, the searchbar is much larger than -1 or the search engine title.

Also - the basic settings don't seem to matter - if I set Minimum and Maximum to 100 and click OK, the search bar size is unchanged, but if I re-open the settings it shows the 100 and 100 values.

To actually change the width, I have to run the assistant - which works fine.

I didn't know about the sync settings:

Min and Max width were not set.  I'll give that a shot.

Thanks again for the help.
