Subject: UPDATED PLAN OF ACTION FOR 3R SUPPORTERS (1000 PETITIONS & counting!)

Dear Supporters of Option 3R:

At last night's meeting, the CEC voted 4 for Option 3R (Cynthia Alvarez, Beth Cirone, Michael Markowitz, Lisa Urban) vs. 5 for Option 2. Neither option won because the CEC requires 6 votes majority. One council member was excused from the meeting and there is a vacant seat, so there were only 9 votes total last night. The re-vote has been scheduled for Jan 27.

We encourage supporters of 3R to focus on these 2 action items prior to the CB1 School Rezoning/Youth & Education Committee meeting at 5:30pm on Tue Jan 19:

1) PETITIONS
The LMC3R sent a very strong message by submitting close to 1000 SIGNED PETITIONS representing all 4 communities in Lower Manhattan in support of Option 3R to the CEC last night. However since the vote is still undecided, we need to continue to collect more signatures. This is a top priority since we need to stress what the MAJORITY of Lower Manhattan wants.

If you or someone you know can help collect signatures in their building (whether it's Seaport/FiDi, Tribeca, or Battery Park City) please email me directly at ip1...@mac.com

Every signature counts, and the more address representation the better, so please help even if you live in a small building!

2) EMAILS TO CB1& OTHER ELECTED OFFICIALS
Please continue to send your views to CB1, CEC, DOE, Borough President Stringer/Deputy Silver, Senator Squadron/Ms Cooley, and Councilwoman Chin.

We need to convey the message that this is a Lower Manhattan issue, not a TriBeCa issue. We need less animosity, less emotion, more reality. We need to change the tone of the conversation from one of a fight between E and SW Tribeca to one for the greater good of all of Lower Manhattan. We want a zoning plan that is more equitable and more enduring to preserve community & quality of life, more robust and more effective in reducing overcrowding and utilizing capacity. We want safety for all kids, and we need to make all crossings safer, but not to rezone around it.

These elected officials are all counting our emails. As you may know, the last CB1 count as of Tuesday morning showed only 62 emails from #3R supporters vs. 110 from #2 supporters (2 weeks leading up to Jan 12). I don't believe the count was fair given #3R wasn't released until Jan 7. If you have never sent one to some or all of these officials then your email counts even more. Please include your address to ensure representation.
