Hello to all,
It became clear at yesterday's overcrowding task force at Sheldon Silver's Office that if at all possible, DOE will collapse our current Kindergartners into 2 first grade, OVERCROWDED sections to accomodate 234 waitlisted parents. What does this mean?
-2 overcrowded first grade sections that will only keep growing, esp. once the Beekman Tower is completed
-4 Kindergarten sections next year at Spruce (school is designed for 2 classes per grade-already the 75 kids they accepted to the 3 sections overcrowds us moving forward)
-essentially equals loss of K-8 model and Spruce becomes an elementary school (this risk is particularly dire this year, since we can not enroll any middle school kids until we move into Beekman Tower in 2011.
*****Even is there is the slightest chance your Current Kindergartner will attend Spruce next year for first grade - you must register them NOW - go to sprucenyc.org - if they cannot collapse us this year into 2 first grade sections, then they will not add the 4th section. PLEASE ACT NOW - OR THERE MAY NOT BE SPACE FOR THEM IF YOU WAIT!
