hi all,

We had talked about having an RSVP form for Python meetings.

Here is a Google form we could use (posting the link in emailed meeting
announcements and on the web site).
We would make a new copy of this form for each meeting (changing the
form title which includes the meeting date).
Let me know if you have any comments....

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dExHWG40Xzd0ZGN3ZUR1T2dMbUFNcVE6MQ

Also, we talked about conducting a survey about Northwest Python Day
2012. I have been planning to do this but have let a bunch of time go by...
Appended below are proposed survey questions. I would welcome any
comments on these also.

See you this evening at Office Nomads... I'll be there at 6:30 to let in
anyone who arrives early.

best,

Jonathan

Northwest Python Day 2012 Survey

Northwest Python Day would be a full-day Python community event,
occurring on a weekend day in early 2012. The program would likely
include about 8 30-minute talks selected by the organizers, plus 2 or 3
rounds of 5-minute lightning talks, plus breaks and time for lunch.

Would you like to attend Northwest Python Day? (yes/maybe/no)

Would you present a 30 minute talk? (yes/maybe/no)
Would you present a 5 minute lightning talk? (yes/maybe/no)
Would you have any ideas for a location which can seat approximately 150
people? (yes/maybe/no)
Would you or your company financially sponsor Northwest Python Day?
(yes/maybe/no)

If you answered Yes or Maybe to one of the preceding four questions,
kindly provide:
Your name (text)
Your email address (text)
Comments (block text)

Additional input about Northwest Python Day:

Is it important that the event be free of charge? (yes/maybe/no)
Which weekday would you prefer? (Saturday/Sunday/no preference)
Which neighborhood would you prefer? (Downtown/Capitol Hill/University
District/Fremont/Other (specify))
Should there be a potluck table for people to bring food to share? (yes/no)

Other ideas, suggestions or comments: (block text)

Jonathan,

Comments regarding the proposed RSVP form:
-----------------------------------------

1. Looks like it has the basic functionality of letting organizers know how many people might attend.

2. Is it intended that the members can see who is coming to the meeting (for those who enter names)? If so, you might indicate on the form that the information they enter will be publicly posted, just so there are no unpleasant surprises. Personally, I think it is nice to know who is coming to the meeting, for those who are happy to volunteer that info on the RSVP.

3. Thanks for setting this up!

Comments regarding the Python Day survey:
-----------------------------------------

1. Generally the proposed survey sounds concise and clear and seems to cover the important issues. Thanks for drawing this up!

2. "Would you or your company financially sponsor Northwest Python Day?" sounds like asking someone (I can say this, now that corporations are people, too?) to sponsor the whole thing which might next make them wonder what order of magnitude this commitment would be. I wonder if there is a different way to phrase this, such as, "Would you or your company contribute (financially or in-kind) to help support NWPD?" or something like that.

3. On the free-of-charge question, if we don't have sponsors then it might be helpful to know what each person would be willing to contribute to make the event possible - I wonder if we should ask that? "If the event is not free (due to venue cost, for instance), how much would you be happy to contribute at the door? If it is critical for the event to be free, please enter 0" Or something like that.

I don't have any strong opinions on these points so feel free to ignore these comments if they don't seem helpful.

Will miss you all since I won't be at tonight or Friday's meeting but hope to see you in January, so Happy Holidays and Happy New Year if I don't see you till then!

Best regards,

Melissa

hi Melissa,
Thanks for the great comments on the survey!

We had the organizers meeting and decided to hold off on the Python
Day survey (and other planning tasks) until/unless we identify someone
who is willing and able to take the ball and be the lead organizer.

Happy New Year & hope to see you soon,

Jonathan
