Hello again
Denis and Jo here owners of the seaDog Aaron.
While getting a survey done recently I was asked about the ballast, its location and what type. Ballast is listed as 3920 lbs. Also there isn't any anodes on the boat just a plate which is connected to the mast. Any info regarding this would be much appreciated.
regards
Denis and Jo

Hello Hilary,

The ballast on a Seadog is encapsulated within the keel and comprises of an Iron block full length and a 4inch high slate block 16ft 6ins long, the pad connected to the mast is your grounding plate for electrics and nothing to do with anodes. If you have an anode it will be on the starboard side just aft of the bilge keel.

Hope this helps

Brian

On Brandon, No 91, the anode plate is on the Port side, adjacent to and ahead of the engine sea-cock (inlet), very near to the propellor. Just proves that each one was individually built!

Hi
I have two anodes port and starboard below the propellor and wired to the casing for the prop shaft. Both show signs of working, good,

Dougal had no anode when we bought her in 1996 and the propeller and skin fittings were de-zincified. We fitted one on the port side through bolted to one of the small lockers in the aft cabin. The folding prop fitted later also has one. We have a shaft fitting with carbon brushes bonded to the main anode too and all skin fittings are bonded too.
Main anode lasts about 4 or 5 years.

Hi Dermot,,

At least they are all in the water. We had a newcomer in our club years ago who bought a 21ft yacht of a fellow member together with a gallon of anti-fouling. A week later he came into the club house and asked where could he some more anti fouling from as he had run out. He had painted the bottom and the whole of one side upto the gunnel but had run out about 18 inches from the gunnel on the other side.  He also removed the pear shaped anode and screwed it further up the hull as he said he had a bad back.

Have you finished the heater yet?

Happy New year

Brian
