Hi all,

INW & Haap had some safety concerns on the railings et al.  I know we’re planning to “do something smart” with the inner/outer railings, but I wanted to start a thread to ensure that was a holistic smart ;)  Items I’m aware we need to fix / decide:

1.       Inner Railing

a.       Need a top

b.      Solution to force egress only to the two ladders

c.       Should match aesthetic (clouds)

2.       Outer railing

a.       Needs the corners crossed & trees attached

b.      Do we still want the vertical 2X6 from CM?

c.       Needs a 2’ safety rail to prevent slipping under on accident

                                                               i.      Do we still want a rope from the top railing to slide down?

ii.      Do the two central ladders support up/down at the same time?

3.       Floor

a.       Missing 3 triangles

b.      Other?

4.       Trunk

a.       Need a solution to catch your back should one slip

b.      Likely the 3rd panel if it’s built inward & outward

c.       This likely voids up/down, so we need to balance this concern with a rope ladder’s safety

5.       Wobble

a.       Ground Anchors

b.      Liquid Nails

c.       More braces?

Scott, anyone – am I missing any concerns?

Paul, Bob, Casey – please address these by Saturday (in writing) so we can start working to correct

I saw someone's hand slip off the upper rung, she caught herself when her back rested against the other ladder, it became a non-incident.  some safety is already there.  the handrail and trianglar fill ins are very minor details.

what to do to stop that twisting when standing at the outter trees, I had good chat with a few real carpenters on that.

Let’s make a Decision one way or another this week.  It’s safe enough with 2 hands, but I wasn’t the only one holding a beer while climbing ;)  I also spend years on submarine ladders.
