Fun in the Sun ….. A Seabrook Sailing Club Tradition ….. The Long Distance Race

Only once a year on Labor Day weekend Seabrook Sailing Club hosts the Long Distance Race. The race is not our typical around the buoys racing. Participants sail a course of approximately 12 miles. There are updates to the course, so make sure you come to the skippers meeting at noon.

The race is open to all types of Cats, Sailboats and Windsurfers. Your Portsmouth rating will be used to determine your start time. The slower boats start first so that everyone should finish at the same time if they sail to their rating. This is a fun race with relaxed long reaches and beats. If you are not an active racer just follow the other boats and have fun.

Enjoy seeing part of Galveston Bay that we don’t normally sail in. When sailing along the ship Channel look for Channel markers and stay out of the Channel ( Big ships don’t stop) Get to SSC by noon to hear the Skipper’s Meeting. The PRO will discuss the starting line, the course, and give out times to start. Enter the water early and try to cross the starting line right after your starting time. Then try to catch the boats ahead of you. Take plenty of water, hats, sunglasses and sunscreen since it is a long race.

First boat to finish wins. Good Luck to all Sailors!

P.S. You've got to do this race once – it’s a Club tradition. Invite your friends that are not SSC members to sail their boats as guests. However, guests are not eligible to trophies.
