I completely agree that
seabirds.net shall be the primary source of
reference for seabird researchers, also for its forums, but If there
ever were to be for example topic specific literature lists, or
member's favorite publications, Mendeley could potentially be an
appropriate compatibility partner. I wouldn't expect
seabirds.net to
have the "social network" feeling that Mendeley and Facebook has, so
it might be a complimentary tool. Particularly, because it's nice to
put a face on the names when you're a new in the field, and don't know
that many people. Obviously I don't really know enough to say this,
but I imagine
seabirds.net will be really valuable portal for: Data-
repository and collaboration, "member" lists, possibly debates and
news too. I think Mendeley embedding could add some unique literature
organisation features and as mentioned social networking to
seabirds.net.
