On behalf of the planning committee, I would like to thank you for all the time and hard work you spent in putting together the Southeast Asian Intercollegiate Summit 2012 in San Diego. Some of you have been with us for a few years and we want to appreciate all your hard work. It is with a heavy heart that we regret inform you that there is no summit planned for January of 2013. Over the past five years, the Southeast Asian Intercollegiate Summit has been hosted throughout California--from Berkeley (x2) to Davis to Merced to San Diego. This year however, the schools which expressed interest in hosting summit are now unable to do so.
At this time, we are looking for a host school in order to continue the conference in the future. We understand that it may be late in the academic calendar in order to find a space, but we have high hopes in the individuals who've been apart of the coalition. We wanted to reach out to past attendees if this is something you are interested in bringing to your school. The process of hosting a conference may seem overwhelming at first, but I can assure you through our years of planning SEA ICS, it is a collective effort among the entire planning committee--not just the school that is hosting. While the past chairs and I are all now college graduates out of the university space, we hope to offer our guidance in the steps needed plan out the conference.
SEA ICS has, and will continue to be, a gathering of action-oriented community leaders who are organizing on behalf of advancing Southeast Asian communities in the United States, particularly those communities bounded by the historical context of the Viet Nam War. This coalition of college students and young professionals understand the need and urgency of going beyond just talking about the issues our community face. This summit provides a space to plan and collaborate to take action towards change. SEA ICS is not over unless we want it to be; it is a labor of love for our communities. Though this may be a temporary pause for our coalition, we can use this time to reflect on what this space means to us, individually and collectively.
Thank you everyone. Please feel free to ask questions and/or share comments.
