Subject: REALLY IMPORTANT - NEED YOUR HELP TO PASS ALONG THE WORD
Hi guys,
On Saturday, April 17th from 10:30 – 11:30, my dad will be doing an educational presentation in Lao regarding what the steps are to apply and become a U.S. Citizen as well as the benefits of becoming a Citizen. He will also cover what the benefits are and how to complete the 2010 Census form that were just mailed out.
This is really important and I am having a hard time reaching out to our Lao community here in San Jose and all of Santa Clara County. There are so many programs that are available to help our fellow Lao community members but most don’t know of them and/or don’t know how to access them. Also, we will be talking about how important it is for Lao people to respond to the census. We are a very under represented group and it's crucial that we all get counted so the Lao community gets the budgeting for services and service workers needed to take care of our needs. As you know the Census only happens once every 10 years and we need every Lao person to respond so that we can get more budgeting for services like court and hospital translators, ESL training from Lao to English as well as government representation for our minority group.
For the event on the 17th, we only need but must have 10 Lao attendees from Santa Clara County to ensure that they will have Citizenship training again for Lao people in 2011.
My dad and I have been reaching out to the Lao Temple here in San Jose for assistance. We are a little bit at a loss of where else to go or who else to reach out to. I’d like to ask for everyone’s help with:
1) Forwarding the word to ALL and ANYONE who may be interested or who would know of people that are interested
2) Telling those that need help learning how to become as well as qualify for government assistance to become a citizen (there are great financing programs out there for those that qualify)
3) Making sure those who have questions or need help completing the Census form come out to this event or call me to get names/addresses to places that can help
There is no commitment to do anything…we just need people in the seats. J Food will be served as well as goodie bags will be handed out. Also, there will be lawyers there giving FREE advice at the event as well.
