Dear Southeast American Activists,

We need your help!

On May 4, 2012, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) issued a Request for Information (RFI), announcing that it is seeking to gather and share information about practices and policies regarding existing education data systems that disaggregate data on AAPI student populations. The RFI can be found at: http://1.usa.gov/AANHPIdata.

ED plans to use this information to help state educational agencies (SEAs), local educational agencies (LEAs), schools, and institutions of higher education (IHEs) identify, share, and implement best practices and policies for identifying and overcoming challenges to gathering and disaggregating data on AAPI student populations. All comments must be received on or before July 3, 2012.

The National Asian Pacific American Council (NCAPA) is trying to organize the community and ensure our voices are included . . but we need your help!

Please help us get comments with 4 easy actions!

1) Sign-on to the NCAPA letter.  Please review the attached letter, and e-mail qu...@searac.org by June 27th to sign-on to the letter.  Provide your name, organization’s name, your position in the organization, and your e-mail address.  If you see glaring problems with the letter or want different substantive points, you can raise them and we will try to be responsive, but hope you understand that as with any sign-on letter, edits are hard once people begin signing.

2) Submit a Comment as an Individual or Organization.  Share your stories with ED through our template for Community Member Comment (attached in this e-mail) to respond to their RFI, and/or use the NCAPA letter as a guide to create an organizational comment.  To submit a comment, please visit www.regulations.gov and enter ED-2012-OESE-0009 in the search bar. Then click the blue "comment now" button on the right side of the first entry listed to access the comment submission form.

3) Get 20 Others to Submit a Comment.  Use your next community gathering to get 20 others to submit comments!!!

4) Help Publicize about this RFI. Send this action alert to your listserv, and help publicize on your social/traditional media sources through our communications tool-kit (attached in this e-mail) which includes sample Facebook and Twitter posts.
