Community Partners Network Manager

 

Organizational Profile: Founded in 1991, the Asian American Justice Center (AAJC) works to advance the human and civil rights of Asian Americans, and build and promote a fair and equitable society for all. AAJC is nationally recognized as a leading expert on issues of particular importance to the Asian American community including affirmative action, anti-Asian violence prevention, broadband and telecommunications policy, census, immigration and immigrant rights, media diversity, and voting rights. 

 

In 2010, AAJC deepened its alliance with the Asian Law Caucus, the Asian American Institute and the Asian Pacific American Legal Center by coming together as the Asian American Center for Advancing Justice (Advancing Justice). Under the common name, we hope to build a more powerful and unified voice for Asian Americans who are deeply committed to the cause of civil and human rights. Based in Washington, D.C., AAJC has a budget of approximately $5 million and a staff of 18.

 

Title:  Community Partners Network Manager

Reports to:  Director of Programs

Supervises:  Community Partners Network Coordinator

Term:  Immediately

Status:  Full time, Exempt Employee, 40 hours/week

 

Position Summary: The Asian American Justice Center (AAJC) is seeking a Community Partners Network Manager to develop and implement a strategy for maintaining, improving, and growing our network of over 120 community-based and national organizations; assist AAJC staff to implement nationally coordinated campaigns with Community Partners member organizations; and supervise the work of a staff member focused on youth engagement.  The ideal candidate is a highly motivated self-starter able to work in a fast-paced environment and handle a heavy workload.  He or she must also be able to translate policy and legal matters in a way that is accessible to community members.  The ideal candidate will be able to work with different personalities, pay excellent attention to detail and be able to follow-through on a variety of competing high priority agendas.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Develop and Manage a Community Partners Network Strategy

·         Develop a strategy for AAJC to engage in meaningful and symbiotic relationships with community-based network partners;

·         Identify and implement strategies to maintain and strengthen relationships with Community Partners, including helping to identify and facilitate direct engagement by Executive Director and staff with Community Partners;

·         Recruit new organizations into the Community Partners Network;

·         Design mechanism to mobilize and engage Community Partners in AAJC policy initiatives and advocacy campaigns;

·         Maintain databases and electronic listservs for Community Partners Network and engage with the Strategic Communications division to deploy communications opportunities to the Network;

·         Manage and assist with administration of programmatic sub-grants from AAJC to Community Partner organizations; and

·         Actively assist with fundraising, grants management, and maintaining good relationships with funders and other supporters.

 

Engage in Community Education and Capacity Building

·         Work with AAJC staff to identify, develop, and implement community education initiatives for all program areas, and ensure that information is delivered in a targeted manner through the Community Partners Network and other avenues;

·         Supervise one staff member focused on youth engagement;

·         Work with AAJC staff to coordinate translation, production and dissemination of community education materials;

·         Coordinate and conduct outreach, training and technical assistance programs for Asian American community-based organizations across the country; and

·         Work with AAJC staff to conduct periodic needs assessments.

 

General AAJC Roles:

·         Contribute to an environment that promotes trust and cooperation among staff, Board, National Advisory Council, Partners for Advancing Justice Campaign Cabinet, Affiliates and Community Partners.

·         Follow policies and procedures, including maintenance of confidentiality, to ensure that the principles of AAJC are implemented.

·         Accountable for participation in decision making processes and understanding the outcomes.

·         Understands the values and principles of AAJC and applies them in work responsibilities.

·         Participates in other activities and serves on ad hoc committees as requested.

·         Attend AAJC and Board of Directors meetings, when required.

 

EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

·         At least five (5) years of work experience in a related field.

·         Experience in campaign, labor, and/or field organizing (in person and on-line).

·         Experience with human and civil rights policy and advocacy issues.

·         At least three (3) years of direct staff supervisory experience.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

·         Demonstrated capacity to be extremely detailed-oriented, able to function independently and exercise discretion and judgment in sensitive matters. 

·         Ability to initiate work and follow through with minimal supervision as well as work under pressure.

·         Adapt to changing priorities and balance competing assignments is necessary.

·         Excellent oral and written communications skills, especially the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences, including formal public speaking.

·         Able to work in multi-cultural/multi-disciplinary coalitions.

·         Sensitivity to different cultures, immigrant communities, and limited-English proficient communities.

·         Proficiency with personal computer applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and internet applications in a Windows environment.

·         Willing to travel and work occasional evenings and weekends.

 

Desired Qualification

·         Experience and knowledge in fundraising and grants management.
