All,

I got this in my mail this morning. I’m inclined to migrate to GitHub, because I have other projects there. Thoughts? It seems like there are people who really don’t like GitHub.

I still need to get a build out. I’m home sick today, but maybe I can get a build out today or tomorrow. I had no idea that my energy to work on this would drop to zero once I started working full time again, but it did. I give my energy to my employer.

Google Code

Hello,

Earlier today, Google announced we will be turning down Google Code Project Hosting. The service started in 2006 with the goal of providing a scalable and reliable way of hosting open source projects. Since that time, millions of people have contributed to open source projects hosted on the site.

But a lot has changed since 2006. In the past nine years, many other options for hosting open source projects have popped up, along with vibrant communities of developers. It’s time to recognize that Google Code’s mission to provide open source projects a home has been accomplished by others, such as GitHub and Bitbucket.

We will be shutting down Google Code over the coming months. Starting today, the site will no longer accept new projects, but will remain functionally unchanged until August 2015. After that, project data will be read-only. Early next year, the site will shut down, but project data will be available for download in an archive format.

As the owner of the following projects, you have several options for migrating your data.

  • seaglass

The simplest option would be to use the Google Code Exporter, a new tool that will allow you to export your projects directly to GitHub. Alternatively, we havedocumentation on how to migrate to other services — GitHub, Bitbucket, and SourceForge — manually.

For more information, please see the Google Open Source blog or contact google-cod...@google.com.

BTW, I haven’t been doing much development on my personal computer (a 2011 MacBook Pro) for the past few years, so I’ve had to upgrade its JDK, Eclipse, and several other apps. I have a build, but it fails on my one unit test.

If I skip tests, it succeeds, and the demo works, for some definition of “works”. It looks good with the non-Mac look, but they’ve changed the title bar colours again for Mavericks, so the Mac look is a bit off. I suspect I last built on Lion. So I’m going to have to do some research to see what the gradient needs to be to make the unified toolbar work.

Once that’s done, I’m sure I’ll have some stale configs wrt the actual Maven release.

I’m going to call this version 0.3, BTW.

Thanks, Klaus, I was quite pleased with it when I was actively working on it. I know it still has issues, such as table rendering, and I think there’s still an issue with combo boxes with more elements than fit on the screen. I don’t want to release with it looking lousy on OSX, though I may decide I don’t care enough, and it can be fixed in 0.3.1.

I’m going to take a short break and get back to it in a couple hours.

Is it ok if I export a copy to my GitHub repos? I am interested in preserving Swing technology.
