Picture the Block

Renowned Camberwell based photographer, Tom Leighton, who featured in the Festival last year with his '36 Reasons to Love Camberwell'  (above), is busy preparing for his Camberwell Festival project for 2013: photographing residents of the D'Eynsford Estate in and around their homes. He then plans to display the results in the corridors of the buildings, turning his backdrops into the gallery itself. If you live on the estate and want to be part of this exhibition then come down on the 1st June (3pm-7pm) or 2nd June (11am-3pm).

Made in Camberwell Launch

Friday the 17th May saw the launch of Made in Camberwell and a month to go for the Camberwell Arts Festival. This event gave guests a fantastic chance to bid on some amazing pieces of work, supplied by local artists. With pieces donated by the likes of Frog Morris, Tracy Allen, Tom Leighton, Tony Lee, Steven Appleby and Sarah Swain, the auction ran for just over a week and received over 100 bids. All this translated into just under £800 and this money will go straight back into the Festival and help us achieve some great projects over the next few months. Take a look at our Facebook page to see what's been going on recently.

The whole management board would like to thank all the artists who submitted work. Without their kind donations the auction could not have taken place. The gratitude of the management board is also extended to the team at Maloko on Camberwell Church Street who not only hosted the show for the week but provided some amazing crepe-style canapes to try on the night!

Two Weeks to Go...

Saturday 15th June sees the opening of this year's festival and there's a whole day of activities and events planned across the area. The day will culminate in a superb event by the Palace of Varieties at the Recreation Ground. Fresh from the success of their first event back in February, the Palace is back, this time teaming up with the Festival for a night of lavish, vintage entertainment reinvented for the Camberwell of 2013!

Camberwell Arts and Big Noise

The Arts Festival is proud to announce its support for the Big Noise Festival which takes place on Saturday 8th June at the Bussey Building on Rye Lane. Featuring a range of live music, spoken word and circus acts, Camberwell Festival will also be supporting the Brothers of the Stripe, a collective of image makers across the UK who work on art, graphic design and illustration projects. Check out their Facebook page.
