Colour Your Street

Turnpike Arts Group and Design for Social Change will be Changing the look & feel of Camberwell Green by celebrating its street furniture, increasing awareness of local issues and bringing the community together through art. Re-using the existing street furniture at the Green to reflect the guerrilla-art character of Camberwell, items such as lamp-posts, phone boxes and bollards will be adorned with chalk, templates and cable ties allowing residents to look again at the things they see everyday on their journeys around the area.

One week to go...

That's right, we're now just over a week away from the Camberwell Arts Festival 2013 which is gearing up to be one of the best of the last few years. The programme includes a huge range of performance artists, open house events, music, art pieces, installations, stand-up comedy and even a life drawing class on the number 12 bus! What a way to respond to this year's 'transported' theme. Dont forget that festival kicks off on Saturday 15th June from 12-6pm on Camberwell Green with an Art Picnic, a Mad Hatter's Tea Party, and a performace by Pangea. Later that night, it finishes up with a nod to all things vintage with the Palace of Varieties at the Recreation Ground from 7.30pm. As ever, download the programme on our website or check Facebook for the latest updates.

The Big Stitch-Up

A major element of the opening event this year is the Big Stitch Up which had one key vision: create Camberwell's biggest picnic blanket and have a picnic on the Green. Extending itself into classrooms, local businesses, resident associations and many of SE5’s parks and open spaces, the project has exeeded expectations and boasts an international cast of creators from Ecuador to Japan and featuring over 100 contributors.

Using only recycled textiles, the blanket is a vibrant collage of styles, personalities and craftmanship. Featuring kaftan to kimono; velvet to vintage, the blanket will feature as part of the opening picnic on Saturday 15th June. Come down and join the participants as they reveal just how big it's become!

Come and tell us what you think

The festival board are looking for budding journalists over the next few weeks to come down and review the festival as it happens. If you’ve got your eye on one of the events or plan to attend a few, then why not write us a short review which will then feature in a post-festival guide later on this year? It’s a great way to get involved and to dust off that note book and pencil. For further information please contact our Festival Director at the the follwing email address kelly....@camberwellarts.org
