eye-KEY-uh
...where "eye" is the word for
the organ of sight, and "key" is
what you use to open a door, and
"uh" is the vowel sound in "nut."
(The stress is on "key.")
But I doubt that this is how Swedes
pronounce it. So, how is IKEA
pronounced in Sweden?
Thanks in advance.

Your pronunciation is not so far off but the i should be as in inner and
the ke should be as in kelp.

well... I'll give it a try... Take the short "i" sound of "internet", the
"ck" of "fuck", and then add a short version of the "wrong answer" buzzer
sound (in game shows, "eeaah!") and then finally the "u" of "fuck". Hope
that makes any sense to you.

...hope you don't take me too seriously though... Jonas posted a much better
suggestion even before me.

It is an acronym anyway, for Ingvar Kamprad (the founder), Elmtaryd (a
farm), Agunnaryd (a village).

I'd say the above aproximates the scanian pronunciation.
Try "icky-er" for standard Swedish. Retain your stress of the second
syllable.

The guy speaks German, but he pronounces IKEA just like anyone in Sweden
would do it.

Minus the Swedish musical accent, of course, but to get that past an
anglophone is a surefire impossibility anyway.

Korrekta personuppgifter är att betrakta som journalistik.
Felaktigheter utgör naturligtvis skönlitteratur.
Who needs the "Swedish musical accent" anyway? We have those of our own
in the Swedish-speaking areas in Finland, and they are good enough for
us.

IKEA is pronounced I-KEA the beginning I to rhyme with HIT. The I is a hard
sound.
har det bra
