Here is a website with a visualization of the world carbon emission.

Browse around for some interesting visualizations.

Shelly,
Thanks! I've added it to my list of visualization pointers:

Hi All,

Thought this lobbying by Greenpeace might be of interest: "This is a
campaign to turn IT industry leaders into climate advocates and
solution providers." The CEO's of the big computing companies get
ratings on what they are doing about climate change.

http://www.greenpeace.org/international/campaigns/climate-change/cool-it-challenge

I mentioned Choice magazine rating energy use of computers at ICSE.
The link to the table is below:

http://choice.com.au/viewArticle.aspx?id=106346&catId=100245&tid=100008&p=5&title=Computers%27+energy+costs

... I've attached the tables. Interesting that the PS3 uses 10x the
power compared to the Wii, and that they measured the power in off,
standby and in-use modes.

Perhaps some volunteer computing / crowdsourcing could build up a list
of energy ratings for a more comprehensive range of equipment?

Regards,

Valerie.
