Hiring Summer Crew Leaders
You can make a difference this summer by being a part of a program that promotes youth leadership development and environmental stewardship! The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is a dynamic, nonprofit national organization that encourages and supports youth in service to the environment. The SCA is currently accepting applications for Crew Leader positions for our 2012 Detroit Conservation Leadership Corps Summer Program, a partnership with the Greening of Detroit and Johnson Controls, Inc.
Responsibilities: Crew Leaders co-lead, mentor and facilitate a crew of 10 Detroit youth, ages 15-18, working collaboratively on various conservation service projects designed to build an ethic of community and environmental stewardship. Projects include trail and park maintenance, habitat restoration, neighborhood green space revitalization and urban agriculture. In addition, Crew Leaders will facilitate pre and post-program planning which includes crew training, environmental education and comprehensive reporting. Program dates are Monday, July 9th - Friday, August 17th. All Crew Leaders must attend a mandatory, all expenses paid, residential training in the beginning of June (exact dates TBD).
Compensation: up to $3795 total salary depending on experience and crew length.
Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 21 years old; able to legally work in the US; have a valid driver's license and clean driving record; First Aid/CPR certification (by program start date), experience working with youth or young adults (ages 14-18); experience as a teacher or leader in an educational environment; experience with environmental conservation or related skills, familiarity with and passion for the Detroit community.
