Education expert to
speak on
public school reform, Thursday, Sept. 23
The Forum on Contemporary Issues in Society (FOCIS) at Wayne State
University is pleased to present author and educator Diane Ravitch as
keynote presenter for "The Death and Life of the Great American School
System," a discussion of public education reform.

Drawing on 40 years of research and experience, Professor
Ravitch will share her evolving views on public school restructuring, the
proliferation of charter schools, testing and accountability, and how best
to prepare students to contribute in the 21st century economy.
Diane Ravitch is Research Professor of Education at New York University and
a historian of education. She also is a nonresident senior fellow at the
Brookings Institution in Washington, DC, and former United States Assistant
Secretary of Education.
The lecture is free and open to the public, but reservations are required.
