The Affordable Care Act helped millions across California and nationwide gain private health care coverage. While this is a momentous step forward, more individuals with health insurance under another person's policy - like a spouse or parent - are at risk
for confidentiality breeches when they use their health insurance. Thanks to the passage of SB 138 - the Confidential Health Information Act - starting January 1, 2015 Californians covered under a parent or a spouse's plan will be able to prevent their insurer
from disclosing their confidential health information to the main policy holder through Explanation of Benefits letters and other regular communications.
In this webinar, presenters will provide an overview of the existing problem, information on new confidentiality protections and share resources available and how you can help clients
exercise their new privacy rights outlined in SB 138.
After this session participants will be able to:
* Explain the loopholes in insurance confidentiality law that allow disclosure
of private information
* Describe what a Confidential Communications Request is and what it
will do
* Discuss when a Confidential Communications Request can be submitted
* Clinicians
* Nurses
* Counselors + Case Workers
* Health Educators
* Administrators
* Billing + Call Center Staff
Please feel free to forward this invitation to your colleagues and networks interested in helping their patients and clients Keep it Confidential.
