Hey all--
Please join SDS in a protest against Governor Scott Walker this Thursday, January 26th at 12:30pm in the UWM Student Union (2200 E. Kenwood Blvd.)
Governor Scott Walker will be visiting UWM as he continues to slash funding from education, but UWM students, faculty, and staff will confront Walker to tell him he is not welcome on our campus. The UWM community sides with over one million Wisconsin residents in the recall effort to throw Walker out of office.
The University of Wisconsin system now rates third in the country for budget cuts to higher education under Walker. The UW system has had its funding slashed by nearly 21% at the hands of Walker’s administration. Last February, 3,000 UWM students, faculty, and staff braved freezing temperatures to protest Walker’s union busting plans in the largest walkout at UWM since the Vietnam War.
Walker has repeatedly visited UWM in secret in order to avoid dealing with his constituents. SDS is demanding that the UWM administration notify UWM students and employees via email when our elected representatives are visiting campus. As an institution of higher education, direct democracy and contact with our representatives should be encouraged. SDS condemns The UWM administration for assisting Governor Walker’s attempts to sneak around campus in secret.
No cuts to education! Recall Walker!
Join us this Thursday in the UWM Union to let Scott Walker know how you feel about his detrimental budget cuts!
Dare to Struggle, Dare to Win!
