Students for a Democratic Society is hosting a speak-out at the Ferguson Center Plaza, April 21 at noon.
Last March marked the 6th anniversary of the war in Iraq, Obama has ordered a troop surge in Afghanistan, and the U.S. continues to spend billions in military support to Israel, despite the recent massacre in Gaza. While billions are spent to support wars and occupations that the people of these countries do not support, we in the U.S. face an economic crisis.
Universities across the country face huge budget cuts, resulting in program, faculty, and staff cuts that impede students' abilities to receive a decent education. The UA system is presently facing staff and teacher layoffs, wage freezes, and tuition hikes for students. Meanwhile, administrators make around 200 to 400 THOUSAND dollars every year. We realize that the University will need to be pressured in order to put its teachers, students, and staff first. Right now, schools from Tenessee to New York are acting, demanding that Universities cut funds from upper-level administration before laying off teachers and cutting programs.
SDS is calling on all people who oppose war and support higher education to come and speak out! We hope to see you there!
Fund education, not occupation!
Peace,
Chapin Gray
