SD Ruby,

Just a quick survey of my fellow Rubyists to see if there's a trend here.  In the last week I've gotten emails from recruiters at two of the largest Internet companies on the planet -- I'll let you guess which two, though you could probably Google it, or find a book about it on Amazon.

Having never been approached by such companies before I'm curious if anyone else here has gotten the "we saw your profile on <web site with profiles>..." emails from these guys.  Anybody else?

Are recruiters just trying to make their 2013 numbers and realizing the holidays are practically upon us, frantically shotgunning requests to any tech-related person they can find?

Or, am I actually good at what I do and they finally (somehow) noticed?  I'd love to believe that but have my doubts, though I'm flattered they're calling.

Let me know if you have a theory about what's behind this or if you have experienced this yourself.

Cheers,

Chris

Chris, you're just that good. If you're too loyal to your employer, could you give them my number, please?  --Thanks, Scott

If they are recruiters from the company, then they must be serious. I would think twice if they were from recruiting firms, probably just pooling resources for other tech requirements. I agree with Scott, you must really be that good. Goodluck then :) - Mary

FWIW, Q4 at larger companies (vs. smaller business and startups) is a time of spending, when you have a pool of money left over from a budget, and nothing to spend it on (think Richard Pryor in Brewster's Millions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9kMHiqS6Kg) so typically that's a big time of year for agency recruiters and in-house recruiters at larger companies to make a push to hire. Q1 (next quarter) is typically slower, so expect a drop off.

Thanks, Dave, that makes complete sense.  I knew it wasn't my charming personality or my Nobel-worthy intellect!
