I have a USB 2.0 HDTV Stick DVB-T/FM/DAB that works in GQrx after editing udev rules to recognize the 2838 instead of the 2832.

Partial output from /var/messages:
usb 3-2: New USB device found, idVendor=0bda, idProduct=2838, bcdDevice= 1.00
usb 3-2: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=0
usb 3-2: Product: RTL2838UHIDIR
usb 3-2: Manufacturer: Realtek

Output from console when starting sdrtrunk:

java  keytool  sdr-trunk  sdr-trunk.bat
~/bin/sdrtrunk/bin> ./sdr-trunk

FC0013/FC0012 tuners are NOT SUPPORTED.  I got stuck with a batch of these by mistake, and they are deaf any way.... I can use them on a some setups of rtl_fm that still support them, but  SDRT does not..

OS, really is not the issue in this case.

There is NO 2838 chip from Realtek. If I remember correctly a lot of the this is related to BAD USB HEADER or ROM programming which shows a 2838 from the asian cloners????  The FCxxxx chips devices were infamous for reporting this , and thus the error above...

You need a TRUE 2832 SDR or AirSpy devices and I think the SDRPlays are supported in another branch, or possibly now in the 050b3?? master... but double triple check on the SDRPlays...in the master branch.

Thank you so much. I'll start looking for another dongle.

I have a new SDR dongle, RTL-SDR.COM, RTL2832U R860T TCX0+BIAS T + HF
It is now recognized and can be enabled.
I have tried to make a new channel, but the directions at http://www.hagensieker.com/blog/page/?post_id=69&title=create-a-trunking-scanner-for-$25-(okay-$50  are outdated. I have .5.0-beta3 and the directions are for 3.0-beta12. The screenshots do not match. Can anyone point me to current directions?

I found the channel create screen. I have created 2 channels for 2 FM repeaters, NBFM. I can see repeater output in the waterfall, but I cannot hear it.

OK... I can now hear my local P-25 system. Is there a way to lock specific talk groups, to allow only certain talk groups?
I still don't hear our local DMR repeater or FM repeaters.

What you need to do is set up ALIASES In the Playlist editor. Depending on your needs/wants/desires you may want to go differing routes... If you system is active with lots of groups that you do NOT WANT to hear and you are using LOCAL AUDIO ie: not feeding to an IceCast server, then you likely want to start with the following:

Create an ALIAS for a P25 TALKGROUP RANGE  Set it to 0-65535, and click LISTEN to OFF. This  BLOCKS ALL TALKGROUPS TILL YOU DO THE FOLLOWING, YOU WILL HEAR NOTHING TILL

NOW CREATE AN ALIASES for the GROUPS YOU WANT TO HEAR. WITH THE LISTEN SLIDER ACTIVATED (BLUE). This will then pass the audio to the local audio subsystem...

I still don't hear our local DMR repeater or FM repeaters.

Can't help on DMR, don't have it in my area, or well that I care to bother with, and the one is encrypted so.. meh... really how many cases of beef aronis you put on a truck is a state secret? Puhlease.. (hint this is run by a local regional grocer who thinks way too much of themselves! /rant )

NBFM... more info....
Antenna type, location, where is it located, inside, outside, height, coax, length, type???? What channels????  Where are the towers for these channels relative to you ? Are they repeaters, or simplex channels..

If you are monitoring a trunk system with ONE SDR, then you can NOT TUNE to channels in the 150, 450, 460, etc. frequencies at the same time. SDR's don't work like a scanner. They are limited in their tuning to ranges from 2.4-12Mhz from the center frequency.

Also keep in mind that EACH SDR can tune ONLY about 2.4MHZ (for your V3 SDR) to some which can cover 10-11-12 MHZ like the HackRFOnes and AirSpy R2 and SDRPlays.... As an example... I have a Hydra SDR which once I upgrade the production box with 0.5.0b3 to support NBFM, I plan to dedicate 2 of the SDR's to VHF (155Mhz) and UHF 462Mhz... to pick up a  few channels what local HEMS and inter city ops use and add to the feeds. The other 2 deal with my main 850 zone...

Thanks for the above. At first read, I think I can get the results I want.
I am hearing my local repeaters now, I just have to do some tweaking.
I did a couple of tweaks (2 were setting gain to auto and allowing auto PPM), and was listening to our local DMR repeater. The dongle seemed to be doing abetter job than my handheld. I'm still not sure what I did to get the DMR repeater working.
Thanks for the help.

An alias can be a TALKGROUP, ie: single talkgroup, ie: 11553, a TALKGROUP RANGE ie: 11553-11570, a RADIO ID, RADIO ID RANGE

A TALKGROUP RANGE, can NOT BE A GROUP ie: 11553, 11555, its CONTIGUOUS RANGE ie: 11553-11570

After getting my rtl-sdr.com dongle and with the help from here and a couple other forums in properly configuring aliases and JMBE I now have sdrtrunk working on OpenSuse and Windows 7 listening to a DMR repeater, 2 2m repeaters and my local P25 Public Safety system with unwanted talk groups muted.
Thanks :-)
