New SDRGlut User ic-r8600 How?

Hello from Sydney Australia,

Been following the youtube videos and have SDRGlut 957 running ok on MacOs Catalina.

(Have it running sought of on Ubuntu but Soapy version conflicts with Cubic and GQRx.)

Sees the HF+Discovery and the SDRDUO but not my Icom IC-R8600.

Appreciate any assistance getting SDRGlut working with my IC-R8600 Receiver.

Works fine with SDRConsole etc on Win10 using IQ connection.

Hi Cliff,

At this time the IC-R8600  runs only on Windows 7 or 10. The Mac sees it, but the USB transfers fail. The IC-R8600  returns the information about how to access it, but it does not seem to work. I have asked the USB people what is going on, but I get no response.

Some questions, to see where we are at  -

Did you do the install from SdrGlut-957-Install.msi ?

You need to be sure that your IC-R8600 software is at version 1.30 or better and that you have installed the icr8600_usb_iq package -

Has that been done ?

You are saying that you can click the "About" button and nothing happens ?

If you mouse down on the "SdrGlut-957" label can you drag the window ?

Have you restarted your machine and tried at again ?

Ok re the 8600 I thought you had it working on the Mac? SDRUNO and HF+Discovery work great on Catalina.

Yes I installed from the SdrGlut-957-Install.msi on Win10.

Also have the icr8600_usb_iq package installed even uninstalled and reinstalled it to make sure after it wasn't seeing the 8600.

The 8600 is on the latest firmware. 

Rebooted several times as with anything Windows !

clicking on any of the SDRGlut buttons in the initial screen does nothing and can't even move the little window.

The only way to quit is close the terminal window.

The terminal shows the soapy drivers are loading but thats all. The i8600 one is there..

Are you using a laptop ?  Things work best if you have a usb mouse with a scroll wheel - I like the logitech B100.

My Windows 7 laptop just went nuts and I had to plug in a mouse to get going.

You are having some problem with freeglut or OpenGL on Window 10. Are you up to date with Microsoft updates ? 

I normally do not keep up to date, but today my Windows 10 machine is up to date. 

When I first started using Window 10, I had trouble with freeglut, but recently the problems went away.

Give the last version of SdrGlut a try

See if that version works.

Not a laptop actually a 2012 i7 Macmini so can run most any operating system natively , I use USB Keyboard and Mouse

It uses onboard graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 which shares the 16GB of memory. Maybe thats an issue everything else has worked fine though.

I'll try the previous version of SDRGlut as you suggest

I tried HDSDR works fine with the 8600 using the Icom driver.

My Win 10 is up to date as of today.

I have a Intel NUC i5 with Win10 I could try , will tomorrow.

Are you using "Parallels" to run Window 10 on your Mac ?

No running all operating system natively no virtual machines.. I Boot into  MacOS or Linux or Win10.

Well today uninstalled 957 and installed 953 or and it works perfectly I can click on the window buttons and also detects the 8600

So something different between the versions Dale ?

I added the BladeRF stuff to version 957, but none of that is accessed until you click a button to do sometime. The "About" button is completely isolated from the changes - so it should work. The only thing different that happens before the little window opens is that different versions of the BladeRF routines are loaded - that could in theory cause a problem. If you remove the 

/lib/SoapySDR/modules0.8/bladeRFSupport.dll

module the BladeRF routines will not load, but everything else should work.

Ok will try removing the bladeRF module and see if that fixes it.

So i removed 953 reinstalled a fresh download of 957 and it works ? Haven't removed the BladeRF module either so no sure why it works ok now.

Once version 953 worked,  that was what I expected  - It was just a Windows glitch - something you did along the way cleared it.
