Join a few of us randos on Saturday for the "Coronado Express Permanent" along the coast.
This is John M's route from O'side to Coronado via the ferry and return loop around the Bay.
Good pace-line workout with tall tale chatting!

We'll leave in front of O'side Pier at 8:00AM sharp.
Pick ups at Swami's at 8:40AM. Along the route OK too.
Ferry leaves the dock at 11:00AM. One way fare with bike is $4.25.
Water breaks en route and lunch break at JIB in National City. (Jaime's Hearty Bowl resides here!)
Should be back around 4:00 PM.

For RUSA credit, send Waiver to John Mestemacher before route start.

Sunny weather, rough seas and good company... sounds like fun to me!

Ride Update:
Start weather was almost perfect. No coastal fog. Only long sleeve
layer under jersey. We chatted a bit at the pier till 8:00, noting
Jaime was a no-show,again. NCCC riders Dan Phillips & Bill
Williamsons, John Mestemacher, Fire Captian John Bruce, Robert
Abraham and myself.

Picked up Jim Wisener in Carlsbad. Jimbo was dressed for arctic
weather, even had a paper vest under his long sleeve jersey!
Water break at Swami's! Some riders went inside up Torrey Pines, some
outside. Just after regroup at top, John had a flat. Andi Ramer & Don
cycled up and ask: "How many Randos does it take to change a flat?"
Seven! Andi can't wait for the 1000K next month to kick some butt!
Robert ask: "Do Randos have a height requirement?" Some funny stuff
going on at that stop!

After a quick pro-flat fix, the group cycled down Garnett and the Rose
Canyon Bike Path. Along Santa Fe Street, John had the same flat again.
I turned back and gave assistance(held his bike). Jimbo came back and
I mentioned that they should continue to the ferry landing for the
11:00 AM departure.
While fixing the flat, Stephane Beaudry stopped by on his Ritchey for
a chat. Steph. was long time local Rando, who was a terror on wheels.
He's getting back into cycling shape and we'll soon see him leading
the pack again. Jamie Gurrola came riding up, chasing us from the
start. Seems he had a garage flat and got a late start. We believe
that?

Rolling again in catch up mode, we met the other riders just down the
street. Seems Robert had a flat. While waiting, I notice my rear
Michelin Pro3 rear tire was flat spot corded. We waited till all was
well and then picked up the pace along Mission Bay Drive to catch the
Ferry. Cranking past the Airport, we lost Jaime and John. We did a
short-cut to the SD Ferry Landing with 10 minutes to spare. This place
was packed with tourists from a cruise ship! We were also looking for
Mike Berry to join us. Hoping John and Jaime would show late, I
purchased their tickets for a quick boarding.. NOT. Ferry left without
them. On Coronado, Dan and Robert text'd and phoned them. Jaime had
lost a quick link from his chain and they planned to de-pin and
shorten his chain. However, they found the Q-links and were riding
around the Bay the other way to meet us.

Nice quick ride down the Strand and around the Bay with a tailwind. We
tried the new section of Bike Path on the East side. Not that
impressive with the "tagger wall" for the $$ spent. We soon regrouped
with John and Jaime and proceeded to the JIB Control stop in National
City. Lots of burgers and shakes, refills and 20 minutes of chit chat.
Soon we were off on the lumpy bumpy Harbor Drive. The road is smoother
that before, but lots of work still needs to be done along there.
Downtown area was full of construction and steel plates. John pulled
up and around Mission Bay. We decided to take the Bike Path and check
out the new bridge. We saw the bridge, but our Bike Path never went
over it!

A hottie UCSD chik cyclists joined up through Rose Canyon toward UCSD.
Regrouped before the Torrey downhill. Not much headwind as usual
riding northward. Encinitas had a street faire, so we looped around
amid heavy car traffic. Jimbo turned off at Solana Beach to his
daughters house. Next was John at LaCosta Ave to ride home.and
complete his 100+ miles. Rest of us cranked er' up the coast. Dan and
Bill stopped at Magee Park, Jaime, John B., Robert and I rode back to
the Pier. Arrived just after 4:00.

Interesting day, great weather and some interesting stuff along the
way. Flat-itis was kept in check. Nice training ride with some great
riders.
Thanx to all the riders and the clones we met along the way!
