Hi Dion,

The freeway bridge over Lake Hodges is open to bicyclists both
northbound
and southbound. They've made some real effort to make sure not to
cut off
bicyclist access across the lake even with all the construction.

It is a construction area, though, so be careful and watch for
railings,
debris, etc.

We are thinking of using the Lake Hodges bridge for San Diego
Randonneurs' 600k brevet on April 26. Given the construction that's
been going on there, is the bike path over the I-15 bridge still
open?

Thanks, Dion Dyer

A few weeks ago I was pulled over by a CHP officer and written up for
riding across the Lake Hodges Bridge on the freeway shoulder from
Pomerado onramp north to Via Rancho Pkwy offramp. I urged him to pull
out his manual on the Motor Vehicle Code and to drive the route, paying
attention to the signs (or lack thereof). He left me at the gas station
@ Via Rancho Pkwy exit, drove off, went south on I-15, exited Pomerado
and returned to me...then cancelled (I hope!) the ticket...so I know it
is legal and passable, even if not all CHP officers know the "no
reasonable alternate route" provision in the Code.
