Since I’ve started working in FIWARE and IoT related stuff, I’ve been advocating
schema.org as I think it is a pragmatic and effective vocabulary-based approach of accomplishing what the semantic
web promised but never delivered. I feel excited about the launch of
iot.schema.org as it fits perfectly within our view of harmonized APIs and data models for data portability in smart applications which exploit real time data.
In addition, I’m contributing, together with other telco operators, to the IoT Big Data Ecosystem project of the GSMA. Such project is defining harmonized APIs and data models for different
IoT related domains, and the good news, is that we are reusing
schema.org! . Last but not least I’m currently leading, within the FIWARE open source community, the development of different harmonized data models [4] [5] (ongoing effort) intended to model different
aspects related to the smart city domain (Parking, Streetlight, Waste Management) [3]. We aim to contribute both the GSMA and FIWARE work to
iot.schema.org.
