Dear friends
Some individuals dream to change and some others toil hard to improve an abysmal situation, and then institutions come into existence. History of NNF is akin to it. A dream to institutionalize the Newborn Care in the country did not let the stalwarts sleep; National Neonatology Forum of India, a movement, came into being. This academic body played its assigned role very well and it is going strong day by day. Everyone associated with this great organization has contributed and made it vibrant.
Now the time has come to take the NNFI to another horizon where it can guide and mentor the government initiatives to achieve single-digit NMR by 2025, not an impossible goal. INAP was launched in 2014, and MAA program was inaugurated on 5th Aug 2016 to improve neonatal, infant and U5 quality survival. NNFI can take these program and help in the implementation of them in the country.
The Board of Governors, on behalf of the superseded MCI, has brought out competency-based MBBS curriculum on 6th Nov 2018. It is hoped this new curriculum will change the way we have been trained to emphasize more on acquiring clinical skills than the theory, the psychomotor domain of education. NNFI can play a very crucial role in the medical education; pediatrics, though a major subject, but it is still given the only 100hrs of teaching and 10wks of clinical training during MBBS course. This has to change and equal time has to be given to pediatrics like medicine, surgery, and OBG.
NNF election is around the corner. This gives us an opportunity to choose the most deserving and competent person who can achieve what has been mentioned above. In Prof Ashok Deorari, we have a very dynamic, hard working, well trained, suave and approachable candidate for the post of President-Elect. I would urge all of you to please vote for Dr Ashok Deorari as President-Elect. The NNF will be richer by his experience and his accessibility in the government health delivery system will be a bonus.
Thank and warm regards
JAI NNFI
