Career Experience:
1996 to Present: Co-founder of a privately held Mexican air ambulance business,
MedLink, Puerto Vallarta and Cancun, Mexico
Was instrumental in converting, within a three-month period, a business plan
into an operating entity billing over $750,000 worth of air ambulance services
in the first year. Working under tight time lines, was successful in
interviewing, selecting, hiring and training the company support and
administrative staff. Worked closely with key hospitals in the U.S. and Mexico
to coordinate operations. Developed operating protocols for the prompt, seamless
transfer of patients from several Mexican cities to hospitals in the U.S. and
Canada. Actively participated in negotiations with city, state and federal
Mexican government entities to obtain the required operating licenses and
permits, and with leasing companies to obtain the aircraft used in the transport
of patients.
1989-1996: Director for Latin America, Critical Air Medicine, San Diego,
California
In charge of international air ambulance business development, marketing
and public relations. Developed, established and maintained a network
of over 2,000 physicians as well as high level government officials
throughout Mexico and Central America. Organized medical conferences,
trade shows, television appearances and press releases in Latin America to
promote the service. Worked closely with key hospitals in California,
Texas and Florida to establish protocols and facilitate the admission of
critical patients 24 hours a day. Company sales grew from $350,000 a
year in 1989 to $3 million a year in 1996 thus becoming the largest air
ambulance service in the industry and transferring more international
patients to the United States than all other air ambulance companies
combined.
1984-1989: Co-founder of a fee-based international scientific and medical
consulting firm, Intercom Information Resources, Austin, Texas
Responsible for setting up service and operation, fee structure,
marketing and finances. Provided services in the area of export marketing and
development, language translations and identification of medical and other
products in demand in Latin America. Developed under contract with the
International Trade Administration, a proprietary on-line database to
disseminate information gathered on over 20,000 active importers, agents and
distributors from 120 foreign countries. The database, called Opportunities for
Export, can be accessed electronically via NewsNet, an internationally
recognized on-line business information company.
1981-1984: Systems Engineer
Dresser Industries, Houston, Texas
Employed in the United States and later promoted and transferred to
Venezuela, South America as a Systems Engineer for Dresser Atlas
International, a world leader in high technology data acquisition providing
vital information to the energy industry. Responsible for generating sales
of over $1 million, thus assuming major responsibility and direct
influence on company1s profitability. Performed a wide range of customer
relations, applying diplomacy and assertiveness to technical problems,
completion delays and field operations. Demonstrated ability to work
independently, to train, supervise and motivate employees as well as to
represent the company to the customer.
