Hello, I'm researching the city of Santee as I plan to relocate to San
Diego County in the near future. I have visited other areas in San
Diego county but never adventured to the East. Is Santee a desirable
place to live? I am married and have two young children. How do the
schools rate in Santee? Is the crime rate low? What is the typical
commute time to San Diego Downtown? And to the Golden Triangle?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Not sure if you got any answers but Santee is a pretty nice place. As SD
goes it's a bit hotter in the summer, and the commute can be a real
drag. I don't know much about the schools there but I do know that the
Poway / Rancho Penasquitos areas have really good schools. Check
powayusd.com if you're interested.

Good Luck on the hunt if you haven't moved already.

Hi there -

I've lived in Santee for over 15 years. Great place, mostly blue
collar - HEAVY family oriented community. Very little crime, quiet.
You can take a walk in the middle of the night without worry. We have
great parks, very active youth sports. If your kids are teenagers,
they would probably want to be closer to the beach but there's lots to
do for the younger kids (fish, bike, hike, sports). The High Schools
are good (West Hills should be your first choice). There are kids
everywhere - we always have kids playing/riding bikes/skateboarding on
our street.

Mast Blvd traffic is getting ridiculous so try to find a home a street
or two away.

Traffic in/out of town during rush hour is as bad as any other part of
San Diego but the freeways are almost new and not too bad. There
really isn't a bad part of town like anywhere else the less dense the
housing, the better the neighborhood. Best shot would be near Carlton
Oaks school, they have a great program and while there are some
apartments its mostly single family homes in that area. It's right
next to Santee lakes and surrounded by Mission Trails park and the
Carlton Oaks Country Club.

My son went to Sycamore Canyon Elementary near the lakes - also a
great area!

Good luck!
BB
