I have at the moment a SurfBoard 3100 and pay £25 a month for my service
which i am very happy with. The thing is I was out shopping today in one of
my local PC shops and saw a brand new boxed 3com Home connect modem for £45.
I thought this was ace as I luved the look of this modem and as well as that
i can cancel my rental of my modem and this modem will be saving me money in
9 months time.

When I rang NTL earlier today well last night now they said that they are
not doing the buy scheme now only the rental option. Does anyone know if
this is true or is there anyway I can buy this modem and save myself £5 a
month. The thing is i have been with them well over a year now so they cant
get me there.

The only other thing is I have heard of people just connecting Cable Modems
to unused cable lines which the rental has been cancelled on and them
working fine. Can you please let me know what truth there is behind this.
And whatever you know about this too as I am very curios as i thought this
was impossible. Might mean I could connect this modem cancell my
subscription and pay nothing more, LOL

Seriously I am very happy with my service but am just looking at a way of
saving a little bit of money.

If anyone can let me know if NTL will let me do this £20 a month where i own
the modem?

Many thanks for you advice in advance

Pete

Some companies have no program to allow a discounted fee to those that own a
modem. I did a Roadrunner install in Corpus for my in-laws and this was the
case.
