Anyone out there using linux....hello

echo

I can't seem to get my hostname to update properly using DHCPcd. This
causes a problem for my hostname resolution and thus I cannot access the
net....

further, I'm using the linux box as a router/firewall and I can't seem to
get access to the support.cox.net site.

any help?

Hope I am interpreting your question the right way ...

If you are using Redhat, within the ifcfg-ethX (where X is the
ethernet adapter you are connecting to the internet) place the
DHCP_HOSTNAME="cxyyyyyy-a" hostname string. This file is located in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for 7.2. You will find that it will
now connect if DHCPCD is started on bootup. If you are doing it
manually, you need to specify dhcpcd -n cxyyyyyy-a. To restart and
test, do dhcpcd -k, then the previous command in the last sentance.
Also, check to see if your firewall script is allowing access to udp
port 53.

As for the support.cox.net site, most likely that the site is
experiencing congestion. Try it again at a later time.

Hope this helps.
