It's a very good move as I have run across more than a few posts about the old belt driven Z on the Shapeokos losing position. Acme to the rescue. Beep beep.

I second this. I have on multiple occasions had the Shapeoko 3 readjust its Z calibration. Hoping this change eliminates the issue.
