Garden Meeting Notes: Oct 19, 2025: 5pm

Attendees

Rosa, Debbie, Sam, Dana, Bob, Dana, Caroline, Katie, Corey

Agenda & Discussion

Introductions & New Gardeners

Work Hour Tracking

  • All Gardeners are required to complete 2 hours of work per month to stay in good standing.

    • This is in addition to your work on your plots.

  • Hours must be logged on the Work Hours Google Sheet by each gardener

  • Once a quarter you can pay a $10 fee instead of completing your hours.

  • Discussion: How to make sure people are aware of what they can do

  • Pinning priorities in the Discord Groups - will start using this to remind people what they can do on their own.

Plot Inspections

  • Sun Nov 9 will be the date of the next quarterly inspection

  • Gardeners will have 1 month to get plots into good standing if they don’t pass

  • Remember, what we check for per the garden contract

    • Are there plants that are actively being maintained or has the plot been seasonally winterized/solarized?

    • Has the area been weeded and clear of invasive plants?

    • Is the garden only using organic gardening methods and abiding to the garden water conservation policy?

    • Have tools and supplies been properly stored and maintained?

    • Is the plot in proper boundaries and the surrounding pathways wide enough for a wheelbarrow to pass?

It’s My Park Day

Garden Finances

  • Corey reported on Garden Finances

  • We are in good shape with our balance

  • Last water bill was $130.

Committee Updates:

Compost, Trash & Recycling

  • Budget for improvements for bins?

    • Corey will check follow up with Agata about spec’ing out plans

  • Collecting leaves - Check and see if this group is planning on collecting bags

    • Collecting leaves in the fall gives us browns to mix with the greens all year round.

  • Trash Pickup:

    • There’s a mattress that is on the path down to the creek - will want to make sure people aren’t camping and leaving trash

Outreach & Communication

Catholic Pilgrimage - Group will be visiting the garden on Nov 8 as part of Pilgrims of Hope.

  • Thanks to Debbie for being our lead contact for this!

  • Leader from their group came by to do a walk through last week

  • They’ll be at the garden for 37 mins - between stops on the train - They’ll do a short prayer and then go back to the train station

  • They might have some people with disabilities so will be using accessible trails.

  • Signs: Consider what other signs we can get in the next 3 weeks to make the garden more welcoming

  • Water and Snacks - They don’t want anything pre-packaged stuff

    • Ok if we want to provide anything baked

  • Number of people? 10-100? Not sure yet.

  • Do we have any asks of them?

  • Rosa - volunteered to come and take pictures - Debbie will check that’s ok.

Common Garden Areas (Pollinator, Orchards, Welcome Garden, Pocket Prairie)

  • Caroline - redesigning the layout in the north pollinator garden

    • Minimize paths, less wedding and more plants and useful space

  • San Marcos nursery - might be on hold getting this done

    • We’ve approved up to $200 in plant supplies for the common areas

    • Inevitable Homegrown - Organic in practice but not certified

    • We can get a wholesale rate with our nonprofit status

  • Prairie - Continuing to work on getting seeds in this area.

  • Turks Cap - Deb said that there are some we can transplant to another area.

  • Status of the Mini-grant - Should know next week

Shed & Inventory

  • No updates

  • Will be making a purchase of sprayers so we have working ones through the winter

Maintenance

  • Reminder that there are repair supplies (like washers) for hoses and sprayers in the shed

  • The 2 hoses by plot 5 were broken - not sure what happened?

  • Reminder about turning the spigots off and the hose sprayers open - this will extend the life of the hoses and sprayers and prevent other damage

Announcements

  • Next Workday: Nov 1, 2025 - It’s My Park Day!
