Gardeners and Friends of the SDF Community Garden,

The existing gardener plot renewal process is wrapping up and we're assigning plots to new gardeners. Welcome if you are new and welcome back if you are a returning gardener! As we enter the fall planting season, here are a few important pieces of information before we have our first meetings and workday:

Calendar for our 2025 - 2026 Garden Season
Here's a link to a draft schedule for our Garden Meetings and Weekend Workdays. Unless we hear any suggestions for changes in the next week, we'll publish these events and work by this schedule. Based on this calendar:
  • Our next workday = Sept 7
  • Our next garden meeting = Sept 27 (We'll do official leadership elections for the year at this meeting.
NEW: We will not be sending out Google Calendar invites to gardeners - this has caused too many issues with updates and people not being able to remove themselves from the events. Watch for updates on how event invites will be sent moving forward.

Plot Renewals
Final notices have been sent to gardeners who have not yet turned in their contract or fees. As noted in our instruction timeline, we've started assigning surrendered plots to new gardeners. Big thanks to Bob for leading this process. It's a big project!

It's My Park Day: Need a Gardener to Lead our Project!
It's My Park Day is Nov 1 but the application for projects needs to be submitted on Tue Sept 2. We need a gardener who can volunteer to coordinate the application and help lead the project. Please email the garden admin address if you can help.

Fall Planting Season
Fall planting season is here! All gardeners should be preparing plots for a productive season. A few notes:
  • Seed Swap - Katie volunteered to coordinate this year's seed swap. The seeds should arrive next week. She'll be sending an update soon.
  • Compost - There is still compost from our last order but it has been overgrown by weeds. TO DO: Use your work hours to clear out this area so we can get a fresh delivery of organic compost soon.
  • Other Purchases - Make note of other supplies that we need and post them to the "Shed and Inventory" Workgroup in Discord.
Workgroup Committees
Each of you signed up for a workgroup in your garden contract. Once we've completed all plot renewals, workgroup committee contact info will be shared with the leaders of those groups. It's your responsibility to respond to the workgroup committee leaders and participate in these groups.

This is a busy time of year for everyone but the fall planting season can be one of the most productive and rewarding times of the year at the garden. Put effort into your plots the commitment you made by signing up to participate in this community garden.

Thanks, Corey
