The following are notes from the SDF Community Garden meeting we had today. Let us know if you have any questions or comments.


Garden Meeting Notes: Nov 15, 2025: 10am


Attendees
  • Sam, Corey, Allison, Lauren, Agata, Bob, Jenna, Plot 40 (Steven), Bob, Natalie, Deb, Marceline , Pooja 


Agenda & DiscussionIntroductions & New Gardeners
  • Intro and announcements

  • More Cardboard for the plots - Place under the shed so that people can access if you donate any.

Work Hour Tracking
  • Remember to get your hours logged for previous months

  • Corey will be locking down the fields from Sept and Oct soon. 

Plot Inspections
  • Sun Nov 9 was the date of the next quarterly inspection

    • 13 Plots failed and those gardeners were emailed with details on what needs to be corrected.

    • 5 plots received warnings due to difficult to access inactivity or weeds that are creeping in more than typical.

    • 4 more plots got warnings because of boarders and pathways that need to be re-established.

  • Remember, we check for 5 items per the garden contract.

  • Question: What to do about the plants that are against the concrete path

    • As long as it is well maintained we’re ok with people using this space

    • Need to be responsible for it not spreading

    • Bermuda grass should be removed - Sam shared Frog Fruit is a good alternative to push this out


It’s My Park Day Recap

  • Water Needs to be clamped off at the hub  - Randy will be helping with this

  • Laying out the plots so they are in the right dimensions - Caroline is working on a layout 

  • Bricks - what do we do with those? 

    • Gardeners can reuse these bricks for common areas and gardens. 

Garden Finances
  • Corey shared garden finances

  • We still have expenses from IMPD and other purchase to process 

Committee Updates: Compost, Trash & Recycling
  • The compost bin is in need of maintenance

  • We need to reestablish the boundaries

  • Rebuilding the bins - something to prevent it from spilling as much 

  • Agata is collecting suggestions and plans from people

  • We’ll focus on this the next workday

Outreach & Communication
  • Catholic Pilgrimage - Recap on the event

    • Focus on reconnecting with God and Nature

    • Signs - for the areas of the garden - these are in the admin side of the shed

  • Updates from the City Wide CG Pot Luck

    • Corey shared updates of what’s going on at community gardens throughout the city

  • Yoga at the Garden - Nov 30 - watch for signs 

  • Idea - Pumpkin Smash - We’ll add this to our list of possible future events to plan for

  • Fruitful Commons - We didn’t get the grant that we applied for. Thanks Sam for trying! 

  • Outreach - Getting some questions about other events - 

    • 3-4 times a year - have an outreach event 

    • Deb suggested we try to do something - do we have any volunteers who want to take this on? 

Common Garden Areas (Polinator, Orchards, Welcome Garden, Pocket Prairie) 
  • Replacement for Izzy - South Pollinator = Pooja Chivukula volunteered. Thanks! 

  • Trip to Inevitable Gardens - Deb and Sam gave a recap of the trip they took to visit

    • Cheap plants that could be good for future plantings. 

Shed & Inventory
  • Missing Wheelbarrows - We’ve lost the 2 that we had. These were our best carts! 

  • REMINDER: Please make sure everything is properly locked when you are at the garden. 

  • Talk to people who are around the garden and keep your eyes open. 

  • Garden Rakes - They have been missing but we found 3 more on the admin side of the shed. They are now there. 

  • Emily is talking about doing a re-inventory and organization in the shed soon. Inventory committee - please help! 

Maintenance

  • Benches - there are screws that are sticking out - need help getting these fixed

  • Spigot - Have we fixed Spigot E yet? 

  • Reminder - we are coming up on cold season 

  • Sign in Plot 34 - Need to remove the sign that talks about pollinators 

  • Two Hives Honey - Sam is going to reach out to ask them about removing the trees that are growing 

  • There’s an oak tree by the entrance that got carved in. Deb researched and found that most arborist recommend it be painted over (any type of paint). This needs to be done soon. 

  • The sign at the top of the driveway has been tagged. This needs to be sanded off to prevent future vandalism.
