Inspections
Remember that plot inspections will be completed May 23 or 24. Plots are evaluated based on the 5 questions listed below and will have 4 weeks to return the plot to good standing if they do not pass:
Plants are actively maintained, or the plot has been seasonally winterized or solarized
Area has been weeded and cleared of invasive plants
Garden is using only organic methods and following the water conservation policy
Tools and supplies are properly stored and maintained
Plot stays within proper boundaries and surrounding pathways fit a wheelbarrow
We still need a volunteer to help with the inspection process. Email the Garden Admin email if you can help.
Pavilion
Corey gave an update on the pavilion following the longer discussion that we had on it last month. Kelton is helping start discussions with his company to see if a donation would be possible to help the reconstruction. And next month we'll be meeting on site with the city to discuss options.
Projects: New Signs
We discussed the need for new signs at the garden and what signs would be helpful to cut down on theft, trash, increased donations, and a few other topics. Ricardo offered to help design some of the signs, and Corey will pursue getting an order once we have the list of signs that we need to get ordered for the garden. This has been an ongoing process as signs tend to fade in the weather after a few years.
Garden Finances
Garden finances are in good shape. The last water bill was $150. We need to continue to conserve water where we can, but also think about what are some meaningful projects that could help the garden thrive. Corey brought up the idea for a kiosk to help share announcements, flyers, and other updates from the garden.
On June 3rd we'll have the beekeepers from Two Hive Honey coming to tend to the beehives while we can trim some of the surrounding trees, twigs, and shrubs that have gotten overgrown around the apiary.
TO DO: If you can help volunteer the morning of Wed June 3, please RSVP for the meeting on the Garden Calendar.
We'll use this as an opportunity to re-establish some contact with 2-hive honey in order to make sure we have an understanding of how the apiary is being cared for on an ongoing basis.
Corey shared the latest update to the Garden Communities app. There are now tasks that gardeners can sign up for and that work group leaders can create to manage the work items that can be completed to credit your required two-hour work hours each month.
Two workdays ago we repaired the compost bins
Moontower Cider donated the shipping pallets. We need to thank them.

Wings and Roots Info Session - Brittany and Rachel are going next month
Discussion Education Garden - Could we get something going more with a teaching garden? Would be another good outreach tool.
Discussed how the use a QR code to give people more info about the garden. Work this into our signs. (see above)
North Pollinator Garden - It’s looking really great - thanks to all the volunteers helping.
Metal trellis is going to be installed soon
Pocket Prairie - There are 8 milkweed plants spread in different areas that we purchased
Deb shared that she is going to be moving in 1.5 years after she retires
East side of the Pavilion - Sam has been maintaining this area
Sam’s going to be leaving in July - this is a great opportunity for someone to step up and take over some of the areas Sam has been helping with.
Texas Lizard Habitat - Deb brought up the need to preserve endangered lizard species
There are push brooms in the shed that can be used to sweep out debris
Wheelbarrows - The code for the wheelbarrow is the same as the shed.
Locking the Shed and Wheelbarrows:
Remember to always lock the shed before leaving the garden
There’s been an increase in the shed and wheelbarrows being unlocked.
We’ll consider resetting the locks and adding more signs to remind people.
Benches - Discussed how some of the benches are still damaged.
Consider getting repair supplies before the next workday.
Brittney suggested that we look into more benches that can work as tables.
Next Workday: June 6, 2026 - 8am
