Gardeners,
It’s been reported that we have a baby possum hanging out in the compost bin, so don’t be alarmed if you see him or her hiding in a paper bag. Hopefully he was just visiting and will move away on his own accord.

Just as a heads up. I used to rehab possums for Wild Live Rescue. They are not aggressive and will generally only hiss if confronted by someone or something. Their first instinct is to run away and their last resort is to “play possum”. They are harmless and we should just leave it alone. It will probably move on on its own because there are too many people and dogs around. Speaking of dogs, if you are walking your dog, please by pass the compost.

Regards,

I’ve seen opossums hanging out around the compost many late nights I’m there.  It’s fun to watch their shiny eyes as they walk along the rebar of the compost bin. So cute.  They’re mostly beneficial for gardens. Apparently they eat snails, grubs, beetles, and any rats or mice that try to take up home there, too.

They also eat ticks that carry diseases! 👍🏽
