Subject: Information on Delegate Selection Affirmative
Action Committee Hearing in San Diego
California Democratic
Party
Delegate
Selection Affirmative Action Committee Hearing in San
Diego
The California
Democratic Party is holding hearings around the state in the month of June to
discuss the 2008 delegate selection process for the Democratic National
Convention
(August 25-28,
2008 in Denver). The purpose of the hearings is to explain the process
of how a registered to vote Democrat in California can become a delegate (in
2008) to
the National
Convention and to determine the appropriate Affirmative-Action goals (quotas are
prohibited).
Registered
Independent voters are allowed to vote in the Democratic Primary so anyone may
attend to hear about the process, but only registered Democrats can speak or
submit
comments to the
committee. Those unable to attend one of the hearings will soon be able to
access the Draft of the 2008 Delegate Selection Plan and submit their questions
and
California
Democrats have been allocated 440 Delegates to the National Convention.
These include 70 Superdelegates (members of Congress and Democratic National
Committee
members) and the
other 370 Delegates will be allocated to the candidates who do well in the
February 5, 2008 California Primary (receive 15 percent of the vote or
more).
