Phrag help

Hi,

I have been growing orchids for many years, but just received a cast off Phrag Hanne Popow that I do not know how to help (have never had one show this growth pattern). It clearly needs to be repotted and get some love, but I do not know if I should retain its extended out growth form when I repot or try to curl around the stem and pot each of the leaf sets to get more roots and give it better access to moisture. Would appreciate any help. Its vigorous, but clearly unhappy.
