Transmit audio stutters and choppy

I had a problem tonight in the RSGB autumn series where when I went to transmit the Flex would switch to transmit but the audio from SDC for RTTY and PSK would stutter or cut in and out at a rate of around twice per second.    If I hit escape and then tried to transmit again sometimes it would work correctly and sometimes not.   It appears to be related to the amount of work the Skm Server is doing as it only happens on really busy contests.  Any one else experienced this an found a fix?
