HI,

I'm in the WPX RTTY contest with SDC and Flex-8400, and I noticed that most of the correspondents ask me for the serial number several times. I did Rx on another equipment and I noticed that instead of numbers in the serial number, letters appear. AND during the contest I met correspondents to whom I also decode letters instead of numbers in the serial number (possibly SDC users). I wonder what the reason is? I have the classic settings in SDC for rtty.
Thanks in advance!

The reason is your software is missing a carriage shift.
So you get letters when you should get numbers and numbers when you should get letters

The digits in callsigns and 599 are received and transmitted correctly. Only the digits in the [EXCH] command are not.

Please note that the SDC-DIGI-Modem subsystem has been successfully used by a large number of users for about 10 years...
Tens of thousands of QSOs have already been made in WPX-RTTY-2026.

Yuri, I don't dispute this aspect, but this is what I noticed today. Now I did a test, I issued macros and left the user digi server window open and even locally, in this window you can see how it receives letters instead of numbers in the serial number. In image 1 is the message sent, in image 2 the one received locally in SDC, as it also appears in the correspondents.
As I said, today I met a few correspondents from whom I received identical control (between 5-10 correspondents, that's why I assumed they were using the same software). Otherwise there are no problems, everything decodes OK

Bingo! I found where the problem comes from:
- a control macro in the form [CALL] [RST] [EXCH] [EXCH] [EXCH] or [CALL] [RST] [EXCH] - [EXCH] - [EXCH] or in other forms with spaces or characters between [EXCH], produces those errors at Tx (I mention that this is how I had modified the macros)
- in the default format [CALL] [RST]-[EXCH]-[EXCH]-[EXCH] everything works perfectly!!!

Yes, I noticed that too. The dash is deliberately included in macros to avoid switching (shift) when transferring digital exchange numbers. But when combined with spaces, it had this effect.
You can use a universal macro to transfer the exchange number:

[RST+EXCH:2,15]

It will activate transmission 599, if this is provided for by the rules. Then it will transmit the exchange number twice. If the station has a level of less than 15 dB, it will transmit the exchange number again. In addition, the program itself will determine what to insert between the exchange numbers: a space or a dash (depending on the station's volume).

This is what my settings look like:

OK, thanks for the advice. Anyway, for 30 minutes since I modified the macros properly, they are in RUN mode and I haven't received even one request to repeat the serial number, which means that now everything works perfectly. Thanks again for the software, Yuri, it's exceptional!

Hi,

definitely it is not the SDC malfunction.
I have noticed that mostly 5M Contest exchanges are produced this way.
They lack the character which is mandatory to successfully turn letters into digits,
please...

Best regards,
Alec

In version v19.0509, access to RTTY-USOS settings has been enabled. For "Advanced" users.
