No UDP connection on Windows machine

This is an update to a post deep in an earlier thread, reporting that I'd achieved UDP connection with SmartSDR 3.9.19 by deleting all SDC Inbound rules in Windows firewall, and then giving the firewall permission to pass SDC packets the next time SDC was run.

That fix lasted only briefly, and I haven't been able to replicate it.

I've tried the usual - turning off the firewall (for public, private and domain networks), uninstalling and re-installing SDC, uninstalling SmartSDR and upgrading to SmartSDR4, restarting computer, changing UDP port to 4990 and creating a specific firewall Inbound rule to pass 4990 traffic, etc.

One post suggested *not* running SmartSDR, but running SDC by itself, and logging the TCP traffic as it tries to find SmartSDR (there should be "Discover" messages).  I did this and found no such messages.  FWIW, the contents of the TCP log file are below.

I'm running a Flex6500.  The Dell computer is running Windows 10 Pro, Version 22H2, OS Build 19045.6456

At this point I'm inclined to give up, and perhaps revisit when I eventually upgrade to a new Windows 11 machine.  But I wanted to memorialize my experience in case it is of use somehow.

Bill, connect the transceiver to your computer's LAN port and make sure all programs are working. Let us know the result.
I think the problem is with your network settings.

Yuri,

If I understand you correctly, you want me to disconnect the computer LAN cable from the network switch, and disconnect the Flex6500 LAN cable from the network switch, and instead connect the computer and Flex LAN ports directly together with a CAT5 cable.

When I do this, nothing happens when I try to Connect the SmartSDR API Client.  The TCP log shows no activity.  The connectivity icons on the TCP and UDP lines of the UI continue to show red-X icons.

Here's a screenshot before I attempt the connect:

And here's a screenshot after I attempt the connect:

The result is the same if I change the Host/NickName to K2POFLEX - the nickname given to my Flex.in the Radio Identification UI of the Flex radio setup.

Tnx,

/Bill, K2PO

Do not enter "Localhost" - this is not the name of your transceiver.

Once again, connect the transceiver to the computer's LAN port.
Try entering the IP address of your transceiver. For example:

Or do as shown in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWF9MoErNeY

RR.  Did as instructed.  Again, TCP connection established, but not UDP.  (I turned off Windows firewall, just to take that variable off the table.)

Bill, you haven't started any processes in SDC that request UDP data. That's why the UDP icon doesn't show a connection. Turn on the skimmer, or just check one of the "Auto..." boxes.
Please watch the video carefully.

That seems to have fixed it.  I left those unchecked simply to keep things as simple as possible.

Many tnx,

Bill
