I have also found you  can turn SSDR DAX & CAT off when using SDC. In fact for me, if DAX is on I get no power out of radio when I Tx in SDC

I've been away from contesting (and SDC) for a few years and I'm back
trying to get SDC v19.07 and Flex SSDR v. 4.2.20 to play nice. CW is
working fine, but RTTY is not.

I've been through the current setup manual. I'm hearing the radio via Rig
Audio through my PC speakers with DAX closed. All the ports that should be
connecting show the blue plugs connected. I'm still having these issues
that I hope someone can help me with.

1. I put SSDR in DIGU mode as instructed but it tries to default back to
RTTY mode. My guess is that I have something misconfigured from my prior
setup but I can't locate a setting that would control that.

2. The major issue--once I get the Flex to transmit in DIGU, there's a loud
distortion mixed in with the tones as confirmed by monitoring the signal
with a second slice. (This happens in RTTY mode as well). The SDC RTTY
waterfall shows both the tones and the distortion.

Suggestions appreciated! Rick N0VT

Rick, you don't need to select the modulation type on the transceiver. The
SDC-Contest program will do this automatically: For RTTY, the RTTY
modulation type will be set automatically; for BPSK, it will be set to
DIGU/DIGL.
...
The DIGU option for RTTY is required for transceivers that do not support
RTTY. Flex-6/8 + SmartSDR supports this mode.
SDC is constantly updated to accommodate changes in SmartSDR. Therefore,
always use the latest versions. Today: 19.0710.
