Concern on Income Tax Payments

Hi Prasath,

As per the audited records of previous years, the income tax paid by the Association is as follows:

• FY ending 31 March 2023: ₹22.03 lakhs
• FY ending 31 March 2024: ₹23.41 lakhs
• FY ending 31 March 2025: ₹25.51 lakhs

However, income tax paid for the current financial year, as per the MIS is:

• FY ending 31 March 2026: ₹4.00 lakhs

This indicates a significant deviation. It would imply either:

• A reduction in taxable income (~80%)  , or
• Substantial tax exemptions (~80%),

Both scenarios require clear explanation along with supporting details.

At the same time, an amount of ₹9.8 lakhs was collected from residents in October (Q3 – ₹7.3/sq. ft.) towards advance tax. Despite this, it appears that the full amount collected has not been remitted to the Income Tax Department even after a lapse of six months.

As discussed in GBM, kindly share the detailed income tax computation/working for FY 2025–26. This will help in understanding the assumptions, exemptions (if any), and the basis for the projected reduction in tax liability.

Hi Prasath,

As per income tax provisions, any under-reporting or misreporting of income can attract significant penalties, including penalties of up to 200% of the tax payable in certain cases.

In this context, we would like to highlight the following:

1. The Association’s historical income tax payment has consistently been in the range of ₹22–25 lakhs  annually.
2. As per the MIS reports, the tax payment reflected for this year is approximately ₹4 lakhs, which is significantly lower than previous years.
3. An amount of ₹3.17 lakhs towards income tax payment by previous association does not appear to be accounted for in the MIS expenses.
4. The due date of March 31 for income tax payments has already passed.
    

Given the seriousness of the matter, we request you to kindly share the detailed income tax computation with residents at the earliest for transparency and clarity.

We also request you to confirm whether the computation has been reviewed and approved by the Accountant and/or Auditor.
